Workshops at Historic Seven Sycamores

This year we launched our first ever workshop packages! We wanted our venues to be a place where not only love is celebrated, but a space where community is built. Workshops can be an amazing space of learning and give the opportunity to connect with others that share your same passions. During our Spring season, we hosted two workshops in The Glass Barn venue. Below the hosts and their students share more on their experience building community through workshops at Historic Seven Sycamores.

CreatingYOU Workshop

by food photographer and writer, Lori Rice

CreatingYOU. was a half-day workshop by food photographer and writer, Lori Rice, focused on creativity in food styling to help entrepreneurs, artists, and creatives produce food and product images that tell their stories and reflect their brands.

The day began with an overview of general topics to improve photos such as controlling natural lighting, surfaces, and props. Attendees were then given the task of selecting food, a surface, and props and challenging Lori to style it all for a photo. Through this lesson it was emphasized that a DSLR is not required to create beautiful images for web promotion, this is reflected in comparing a DSLR shot lightly edited in Lightroom and an iPhone 8 image lightly edited in the app, Snapseed.

For the rest of the workshop, attendees were given time to style and photograph multiple images while asking questions and enlisting assistance from Lori which enabled them to put their creativity to use and troubleshoot with one-on-one support. Attendees included shop owners, food bloggers, food producers, and ceramic artists from the Visalia area, to Springville, to LA.

“The workshop was great! Super helpful! I learned new techniques and feel much more confident”. ~ Melissa, owner of HoneyBee Pottery in Visalia, CA

Go Together Workshop

Go Together Workshop. The Go Together Workshop launched its first workshop for photographers in April 2019. It was hosted by Central California based photographers, Krizel (@heykrizel) and Lina (@linaryann). They’ve earned a number of awards for their work, shot over 100 weddings, and have been published in several national publications including Dirty Boots & Messy Hair, The Knot, Ruffled Blog, Wedding Chicks and more.

The two met early in their careers and quickly became friends. Over the years, they’ve helped each other grow in different areas of their businesses, while also developing an awesome friendship that provided much needed moral support and long, meaningful conversations over coffee and French pastries.

During their hangouts, they recognized that building a business that involved so much alone time (like in-your-cave editing days) desperately needed community to be successful. Community helps photographers learn from each other, grow together and provide support. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

This proverb is what became their mission statement for the Go Together Workshop. Krizel & Lina wanted to create an opportunity where photographers can gather together, build meaningful relationships, and gain powerful tools needed to grow successful businesses. Photographers of different stages attended the event. There were photographers that were just starting, photographers that had started but gave up, and photographers with years of experience looking for more ways to grow.

The first day was held at Workspace (a co-working space located in downtown Fresno in the historic Bankers Ballroom). They covered topics like building a powerful, profitable website, growing inquiries, and booking clients. The second day was held at the iconic Historic Seven Sycamores Ranch in Ivanhoe, where they covered topics like styling, posing, and creating a luxury client experience.

“The Go Together workshop has absolutely changed the way I look at my photography business! Krizel and Lina were amazing instructors! The group lesson was constructed in such a way that it was so easy to feel comfortable asking questions and getting support, not just from the instructors, but from the rest of the attendees as well. This in depth course also extends to a very thorough online course that pulled all of the little pieces together so I could take home the resources and continue feeling supported while implementing the group lessons on my own. I would highly recommend this workshop to both beginning and seasoned photographers who want to turn their passion into a full time business, but have been feeling frustrated with how to do so. Definitely worthy of a 5 star rating! Thank you so much for all of the much needed help!” ~ Viki, owner of Chase Elegance Photography in Fresno, CA
